Abstract

Using water baptism, as a example, the author shows the ambiguous attitude of some mystical groups of radical
reformation (the religious society of friends – the Quakers and Salvationists – the Salvation Army) to sacramental
theology. Despite the anti-ritualism of these groups, they have a deep understanding of the mysteries of the divine
presence in the ordinary life. However, unlike traditional Christianity, their sacramentology is not related to church
sacred actions, but extends to different various aspects of everyday life.
Thus, the Quakers, rejecting the ritual of water baptism, give a saving effect in spiritual manifestation of
baptism and point to their worship as the sacrament because the presence of Christ in their community. The
Salvationists, not accepting the traditional ritual of water baptism, sees the manifestations of Christ as a sacrament
in their social work and in the radical proclamation of the gospel.
